How many people to a canoe?

Our canoes will fit 2 adults and 2 young children. Three adults to a canoe with a $5 surcharge. We do have 3 seated canoes but supplies are limited. Call in advance to reserve.

Can you camp along the Allegheny River or French Creek?

There are several primitive camp sites along the river and many small islands you can camp on as well. If you wish to camp you must adhere to state laws and stay on public land. More details available upon request.

What wildlife might I see?

Bald Eagles, Great blue herons, deer, raccoons, fox, ducks, geese, and beavers.

Are guided trips available?

Yes. Call for details.

Do you offer overnight trips?

Yes. Check the trip list or call for details.

What is the age limit?

Guests 3 and up are welcome in a canoe with parent or guardian. It is advised that an experienced swimmer and canoeist is with a child at all times. Anyone under age 18 must have a signed release form with contact information. OARS reserves the right to use our discretion whenever we rent to minors.

What are the life jacket requirements?

State law requires that everyone age 12 and under wear a life jacket at all times. A life jacket will be issued to every guest and it must be within arms reach at all times. It is recommended that everyone always wear a life jacket.

How is cell phone reception?

Cell coverage is intermittent in the Allegheny River Valley. You may have signal in some areas, but don’t count on it.

What to do in case of inclement weather or lightning?

Get off the water immediately and take appropriate action. OARS reserves the right to cancel a trip if lightning or rain is impending. Make sure you’re equipped with proper safety knowledge beforehand should an emergency situation arise.

Will you shuttle my group if we have our own canoes or kayaks?

Yes, we will be happy to shuttle private groups. Fees will be determined upon availability and desired request. Call for details.

Do you accept credit cards?

We do not accept credit cards. Cash or check only please. Checks can be made out to OARS.
